Deviations upwards and downwards are possible. The indicated performance gains and fuel efficiency gains are target values. The installation of an additional control unit to enhance performance requires a separate, paid inspection to be carried out by an official test facility.

The adjustment of valve clearance is required every 60,000 miles (100,000 km). The 2AZ uses a timing chain to rotate camshafts. The engine has aluminum DOHC 16-valve cylinder head with variable valve timing system VVTi on the intake camshaft only. For vibration reduction, there are two balancer shafts inside the crankcase.
